Elections in
Georgia voters will decide 32 races in the 2026 midterm elections, including critical statewide offices and all U.S. House seats. The gubernatorial race tops the ballot, along with contests for Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and other constitutional offices that shape election administration and state governance. All 14 of Georgia's U.S. House districts are on the ballot, making this a comprehensive federal and state election cycle.
As a state that has seen significant population growth and demographic shifts in recent years, Georgia continues to be closely watched in national elections. Voters will make decisions on both partisan primaries in May 2026 and the general election in November 2026. The state's election infrastructure, voter registration systems, and ballot access rules will serve millions of registered voters across 159 counties.
Georgia uses a runoff system for many elections: if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in a general election for statewide or congressional offices, a runoff between the top two candidates occurs four weeks later. This mechanism has played a decisive role in recent election cycles and may come into play in competitive 2026 races.

Georgia requires voters to present one of several approved forms of photo identification at the polls, including a Georgia driver's license, Georgia ID card, U.S. passport, military ID, or tribal ID. If you do not have one of these IDs, you can obtain a free Georgia Voter Identification Card from your county registrar or the Department of Driver Services. Early voting is available in all counties, typically beginning three weeks before Election Day and running through the Friday before the election, though exact schedules vary by county. No-excuse absentee voting by mail is available—voters can request an absentee ballot online or by mail, and completed ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on Election Day. On Election Day, polls are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM statewide.
