South Carolina voters will decide 77 races during the 2026 midterm election cycle, featuring pivotal contests at every level of government. The election features a competitive gubernatorial race, all seven U.S. House seats, and dozens of state legislative contests that will shape the makeup of the South Carolina General Assembly.
The state's political landscape includes statewide executive offices such as Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction, alongside the full slate of South Carolina's congressional delegation. With 60 state legislative races on the ballot, voters in districts across the state will determine representation in both chambers of the General Assembly. South Carolina's primary elections on June 9, 2026, will narrow the field before the November 3 general election.
South Carolina uses an open primary system, meaning registered voters can choose to participate in either party's primary regardless of their own party affiliation. This structure makes primary elections particularly important in determining which candidates advance to the general election across all levels of office.
